I'd have much preferred to be asked:

"Can you cut your lunch and get out at 3 tomorrow as you are coming in early with me, as this is what I want you to do and I will be annoyed if you decide not to"

Clear, concise, no room for doubt.

Choice. The problem is choice, or the illusion of Choice.
