I've run the line a few times in local friendlies and GFSN games and it's f**king impossible - every decision riles one side or the other, all of whom expect you to get everything 'right' all the time (and, of course, have conflicting ideas of what 'right' is).

Refereeing is much harder still, and I spoke to several people who refused to ref Sussex leagues any more because of the amount of pressure/s**t they get from the players - and that's at Sunday league level. Imagine what it's like when there's actually something riding on it - nigh on impossible. I honestly think football is going to have a problem soon with a lack of referees, because nobody is going to want to do it.
