Let me put this simply

Denying a team space is when you close players down and rush them into doing something.

When teams do this to us our players invariably have no one in space to pass the ball to, due to a lack of movement off the ball.

Plymouth stood off us today which mean that the lack of movement off the ball didn't affect us to the same extent as it did in other games this year.
