Things being mentioned like - the tories wouldnt mind armed police on the streets, and images of police armed to the hilt in a village will condition people to the sight of armed police on every high street.

yes it sounds far fetched and some dodgy conspiracy theory, but are the special forces and armed police that bad that they let him slip when they had him supposedly within a one mile radius?
