I didn't do all that,

I plugged it into iTunes Monday night before I went to bed. Then I found the software update and left it to download and install overnight. Got up in the morning and it was all done and ready to go. No problems so far with it. My phone did do a freeze yesterday for a min but has been alright since. Got my new battery through today though so I'll be changing that tomorrow. I found a great yootoob video tutorial so I'll follow that.
