Actually, I'd have brought Defoe on, but taken Rooney off. If Heskey was rubbish, how bad was Rooney? Not good enough to say he was well-marked. He showed no guile, didn't manage to pull the defence out of shape, and generally didn't contribute. But the same goes for all our "world-class" players.

It wasn't a great game for Heskey (poor shot, offside too much), but even so he was one of our better players and it's generally acknowledged that his role is more provider than striker.
