We created a hatful of chances, we got round the back of them, our energy levels were very good. Heskey won everything in the air and most often directed the ball to an England player. USA did Feck all in the second half bar the Altador shot which Greeno pushed on to the post.

We played better than at any time in 2006 and, as I said earlier, USA are better than four of the five teams we played then.

I truly was not disheartened by how we played last night, at least because I know that with Barry plonked right in the middle we will be the same side that qualified (against two teams far better than Algeria and Slovenia) and far more at ease in possession.
