A mile and a half is a worth distance.
I started off doing about a mile, I think, when like you I really didn't do much exercise at all.
You'll surprise yourself with how quickly you improve your distances, if you push yourself.
Keep at it. It's easy to lose motivation, when it just seems to hurt all the time, but it does get easier, I promise. It hurts a lot more to get fit than it does to stay fit once you are. If you get me.
