Well, the first time I went it was curiosity

and it was interesting but not earth-shattering. The second time, 10 or 12 years later, came about when I found out that the same woman was still doing it, so I went back to see if she'd be consistent, and because I wanted this time to pay more attention to what she was doing to see if I could work out the trick. This'd be early 90s, and I'd never heard of cold reading etc.

To summarise what she came up with both times: she made a couple of oddly accurate statements - she told me what my divorce settlement was going to be before I even got to court, and I hadn't mentioned that I was in the divorce process.

Aside from those, which may've just been guesses, I twigged that she was trotting out stuff in a random order and my brain was instantly shuffling the order so as to make sense of it. Like, if I type here ACEDB you immediately register it as ABCDE.

She also managed on both occasions to map out futures for me which'd have been quite possible with the way my life was going at the time. Maybe, as one had to book the appointment, maybe she just asked around. Either way, she proved to be way off on both occasions because she hadn't factored in my talent for f**king up my life.

She did come up with some guff, though, which made it hard not to laugh. Gazing at my palm she predicted lots of travel - and then spoiled it by naming destinations while scrutinising my hands. "Oh look - there's Vancover". Yeh, right.
