Apologies for sounding thick but my laptop has a Wireless WLAN Card...

...do I need to get a wireless modem to use it around the house?..

Also, if I activate said wireless card can I then go to an internet cafe and drink coffee whilst surfing the net and looking an even bigger t**t than normal?..
