Back from the party...
Obviously a much happier occasion than when we've been before. A nice touch was that through the windows we could see a message scrolling across the scoreboard thanking us for our support.
The players were very happy and very approachable, Oli Johnson still can't quite believe what's happened it seems - he told my wife that all he was expecting this year was a relegation party.
Last time we went to one of these does what was noticeable was how Chris Martin and Micky Spillane were cut off from the rest. At the time we put it down to big headedness, in hindsight it was that they were being frozen out by the management. Different this time. For a start they weren't together. Micky Spillane was at the Doc's table next to Matty Gill. He comes across as a nice approachable lad. I didn't see Chrissy Martin sat down, he was in constant demand for pictures & autographs.
It seemed like everyone wanted to have their photo with Paul Lambert. He is no different in person to what we see on the TV - very softly spoken, very determined that this is all for the fans and that we should enjoy. I don't think he will be going anywhere in the summer.
If anyone does come in for him in the summer they will have a big fight. McNally really rates his manager highly. He also said that before every away game the first thing that Paul always asks is "how many of ours are here?" Before home games he wants to know how many of theirs there are, and can they be squeezed into a smaller space so we can get more of ours in?
Like us Messrs McNally & Bowkett can't understand the barracking that some players get. The Chairman must still sit in the stand, because he has had to endure a season of moaning, mostly about Chrissy Martin. He said he just turned round at the end of the game and said "Happy now?"
McNally rates Chris Martin very highly. He is certain that FF will play for England. He LOVES Oli Johnson.
A very good end to a very good day. My wife disagrees with the poster beow about what Wes had to say, so it will be interesting to see who heard correctly.
