I think that rather than stretching a gag, he was building a character. I loved the one where he got his work receptionist back to his hotel room.

It's Punchline Humour that I hate the most. Grrr. Lucas and Walliams were rightly considered massively unfunny until they gave in and added a laughter track - and now, evidently, they're comedy geniuses. genii. Geniusssess. Guinness.
