They were 3-2 up when they got it, but they were under loads of pressure and could have drawn the game in the closing minutes

The team handed the ball the him, even though he hasn't scored for ages, and was/has been going through a real crisis in front of goal

As it happens, he didn't even place it, he just ran up and smashed it as hard as he could.

Since then he's on a goal a game.
