I think Carlton Cole is a decent striker

and I don't think you need to be a world beater to play the link-up role alongside Rooney.

(In fact in general - some players have done well for England over the years who were never brilliant - just competent, hard-working, and fitted into the team.)

Heskey does the job well, and he's hardly world class. I just think Crouch, Cole or even Zamora might offer a bit more (basically - the odd goal).
