Remember when O'Neill went he'd already managed at a higher level so could be fairly confident that it was a good move as he'd proven himself in England.
If Lambert went now, he'd either be setting himself in Scottish football for ever, or accept that when his tenure at Celtic finished, he'd probably not get back into the english league at a high level because meanwhile, other young managers had moved up the pecking order.
