I think you're probably right.

Also, the SPL O'Neill joined was very different to what it is now: both of the OF were spending big bucks, and capable of doing something in Europe. Now, Celtic won't spend anything, and Rangers' off-field position is horrific - and Scotland are falling further and further off the pace in Europe, and will lose their automatic CL group spot in the next year or two.

I think it'll come down to this: how much will we be able to back him? Note KentonCanary's post above - if the money isn't there, it isn't there. But I noticed PL mentioning he hasn't been blessed with much money in his interview last night, and wondered. That's where the O'Neill parallel could kick in.
