I?m still a little disappointed we didn?t try for being a world cup venue.
Yes we?d need to work on the ground but my suspicion is some of the smaller clubs that have gone in will be getting assistance with the costs of this locally.
And why not? When you think of the trade it would bring in, and the boost to the profile it makes sense to spend some public money on it.
I would think a few local companies, like Carters, would love to get involved in some international advertising in return for a bit of a deal on stadium work.
I think we would have had a unique bid, different from all the other venues.
We?ve got spaces for Fanzones too, Chapelfield, Riverside hell you could even use the showground if we got a decent bus service running out to there.
Our usual transport link problems wouldn?t really be an issue.
They come here and stay here while the games are on, then either go home or move on to another venue. Would be no regular commuting to and from London say.
Never mind, I can?t see a local body ever doing something that may bring so many furriners into the city at once, especially football loving ones!
