What is an "emergency loan"?

As it now seems highly unlikely that anyone is going to sign today "emergency loans" are our only way to add to the squad before January.

According to the Evening News "Carrow Road sources today confirmed that the Football League was happy with ?emergency loans? continuing to operate outside the windows" and adds "Brilliantly, no-one has actually decided what constitutes an ?emergency?.

The quote below gives an indication of what at least one other Championship club (Plymouth) considers to be an emergency:

Bobby Williamson has shelved plans to sign a third goalkeeper before the start of the season. This comes after the Football League confirmed they would allow 'short-term emergency loans in exceptional circumstances' next season despite the introduction of transfer windows. Williamson said: "If I need to, I could bring somebody in on loan but, hopefully, nothing happens to our two goalkeepers."

Currently we have a squad with no major long term injury worries. I would not regard the fact that we are currently crap as an "exceptional circumstance" in Football League terms. For all our sakes, I hope the club has been given confirmation that we will be able to bring in loan players using our league position as justification.
