Why would Cullum want to do that?

Anyone with the long-term success of the club in mind would consider the introduction of Financial Fair Play in 2013 to be hugely significant. It seems to me that a debt-free NCFC even if only adequately managed would be a force for the foreseeable future in the Championship and probably higher.
His alternative would have been to put ?20 million into the transfer pot for Roeder to spend - would that have bought promotion? Possibly. But isn't the near-certainty of financial stability and competitiveness an attractive alternative.
