He's an Italian philosopher from the sixteenth century who wrote a book called The Prince in which he explains how an aspiring prince could gain power, or a current prince can maintain power, by means of justified cruelty, disloyalty and backstabbing. Read the world over by politicians and businessmen who want to work their way to the top and probably by ambitious, scheming football managers too.
