The concussion thing
Lot of debate. Have been on 2 or 3 courses myself on it as well.
Basically that's the thing with AF - helmet and padding makes them feel invincible so they do stupid things like this:

NFL players often have worse fundamentals than the better players at my level, as they get away with it because of their athleticism. We practice very safe coaching at my club and constantly stress not hitting with the helmet first (which is illegal in our rules anyway), keeping the spine straight and head up, etc.
Helmets reduce concussion, not prevent it. It's not the blow which causes a concussion but the sudden deceleration of the skull, with the brain then impacting it.
If we have a concussion (very few, which I am happy about) then the player is sent to the hospital and their return will be based on the medical advice. We also have a doctor (orthapaedic surgeon) on the sideline. Typically it is 6 weeks for a normal concussion, and season ending if a severe one.
