Which is a bit like, forwarding the argument that all Tim Berners-Lee did when inventing the internet, was cater for Myspace and Facebook, and no good to anyone else

Which isn't true, because the internet is good for just about anything, it's just the media side of the internet is where a vast amount of the money is made

So no, I don't think you'd use an iphone for a spirit level or watching a pint of carling being drunk. But then, they aren't the only applications on the phone

Hell, I don't even like the iphone, yet I'm defending it due to your banal daily "d'ya know what really grinds my gears?"
