No sounds on my iPhone...

...anyone know why I have no sound? According to Settings it's all OK and if I go through all the alerts and ring tones they all seem to be there and ring true yet it never rings when someone calls/makes alert sounds...someone had a butchers the other day and said they'd sorted it but they haven't - any ideas?

I should add the alarm works OK - is it something really simple?..
