you're right about the whiteness

Brighton and Hove

By far the largest ethnic minority group in Brighton is Other White. More than 11,000 people - or 4.6% of the population - indicated this as their ethnic origin in the 2001 census. Among these are more than 1,300 French people, 600 Spaniards and 450 Swedes.

More about the index (ONS website)
Brighton is much 'whiter' than most large towns and cities in the South East. Less than 6% of its population is non-white. There are 4,500 Asians (slightly less than half are Indian) and fewer than 2,000 Black people, mostly African. The proportion of Chinese residents is slightly higher than the national average at 1,300, or 0.5%.

Around 1,500 people of North African descent live in Brighton; many of these will have been among the 1,600 people who ticked the Other ethnic group box in the 2001 Census (0.6% of all residents)

Brighton has a disproportionately large number of Iranian residents; almost 700 live in the city at the time of the 2001 census.
