The strange case of Marc Edworthy

Marc Edworthy went from being our first choice right back in the Premiers**t to being not even worth the offer of a contract in the championship in the blinking of an eye. Which seems more than a little odd.
In his last two championship seasons he was promoted and he also won promotion with Palace. He is a solid professional, very good at this level (which is what we need) just not quite up to it week in week out in the very top league.
He has been replaced with a dutchman who has never played in England, and who considers himself to be a centre back anyway.
Can anyone see the logic in that? Because I can't.
