Where do I start? (Warning: too many words)
Went tonight with muchos enthusiasm. I mean we've had a poor start to the season. Can't get any worse. Got to win sooner or later. Well that's what a blind optomist hopes.
8 minutes is all it took. 8 minutes for a sinking feeling to descend. For reality to bite me firmly on the backside. Ladies and Gentlemen of the Wrath. I'm afriad it's not good. It's not big and it's not clever either.
DEFENCE. No coordination. No shape. No positioning. No working as a unit. No idea where each other is. All 3 goals tonight were down to basic defensive errors. Simple as. Why the f**k do we think we can stroll out of defence with a ball without losing it? Why the f**k we stand and admire opposing players when they spot a gap in our back line and there's a loose ball around? There is no leadership at the back. Sorry to say, but from what I saw tonight, a bunch of headless chickens.
MIDFIELD: Dean Marney. Was looking for just a glimpse. A smidgen. A flash of inspiration. Sadly I saw nothing there. Saffers put some tackles in, won some ball, did lots of chasing, looked good at times, before starting to lose his way. Hucks looks lost on the right, was full of running and showed plenty of passion. Sadly too much in the second half. Thing is with Hucks though...HE CARES. Jimmy B. Some good runs but hindered by some wayward passing at times. Wish he was commited to the tackle...noticed he pulled out a couple of times. Brilliant chase though to keep the ball in and cross for Deano to score.
ATTACK: Deano cares. Deano wants it for NCFC. He ran and ran and ran and ran. Won ball in the air and on the floor. Great goal. Leon. Leon? Where was Leon tonight? Or rather where was Leon's head tonight? It certainly wasn't at the Britannia. Poor control. Poor one touch. Poor passing. No vision. No apparent enthusiasm.
There's so much more I want to say, but this is long enough for now. There is something seriously wrong, and I'm worried. I'm sorry to say, that for the most part, I didn't recognise the team playing in yellow and green tonight. What is most soul destroying of all...is that it appears that togetherness, that bond, that team spirit that was so evident even 15 months ago has gone. It needs to return, and pretty damn quickly.
