Gordon Brown's failed spelling
I agree below that this has been blown up in a really unpleasant way.
BUT - someone really should have made sure that he had spelt the names right. Because I do have a certain amount of sympathy with a mother being furious that her name is mis-spelled and her son's name looks as though it was mis-spelled and then corrected. That's Gordon's staff, though, not really his fault.
Tabloids are just silly. This is so reminiscent of the end of Major - anything he did, ANYTHING, was mocked. He could do nothing right at all. In fact, he was mocked even for things that had no connection with him AT ALL. I remember John Smith saying in the Commons "This is John Major's Britain, where the Grand National doesn't start and hotels fall into the sea". As if those things had anything to do with him! But in tabloidland once you slide, you slide quickly.
