I am now at the point when I think we need a club to fail properly

I really do think that if Southampton had been dropped to the Conference South rather than 'eased' out of their financial situation then clubs would have started to consider exactly what this level of debt-financing means. At the moemnt Hull must just be thinking that the worst that can happen to them is relegation and a tenpoint deduction - which might mean they end up in the third tier, where they've been quite happily residing in the not-too-distant past.

Whereas if it really were 'practically' out of business it might mean that other clubs start to look at playing budgets (105% of turnover - did I read that correctly) - and some balance returns.

Histon is a club that is now in dire financial straits - down simply to not getting the revenues from one more round of the FA cup. So we're talking probably less than 100K - yet Ipswich can survive with debts of 35m.

Whatever happened to that grass roots review?
