there is another quick way too

if you right-click in the bottom your excel window (the status bar i think it's called - where it says 'Ready' in the bottom-left corner) you can change what Excel does with selected cells - the default is Sum, but if you change it to Count and then do your filter highlight the whole of one of the columns filled with data and it should give you a count of the rows returned
