I just did a poll of about 15 black people in my office about the term Afro-Caribbean

They don't care but they reckon it's a white term created by white people.

There's nothing on the internet that details it's orgin as a word/term but it sounds like it was created when black slaves from west africa got shipped to the Caribbean.
