London based supporters: Efan Ekoku is at the Offside Bar tonight
Looking ahead to South Africa 2010 and the African Nations Cup in January too we are delighted to have Ian Hawkey, author of Feet of the Chameleon: The Story of Foootball in Africa as our main speaker.
Ian is the international football correspondent of the Sunday Times, his fascinating book traces the development of football in Africa, finding out what makes African football unique and examining how the game fits into the social and political life of the continent. Drawing on a wide range of sources, and utilising extensive experience, having lived in four football- obsessed places - Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Egypt and South Africa - and having visited a further 24 African states, Ian has produced a remarkable book: the definitive account of football and a continent.
Ian will be joined by panellists Efan Ekoku former Nigerian International, Eric Fraikue General Secretary of The Ghana Football Society (UK) and Piara Powar, Director of Kick It Out. The evening will also see the launch of a Offside Gallery exhibiton 'Into and Out of Africa: 2010, African Football and Beyond.'
Free, all welcome. The forum is at Offside, 271 City Road, London EC1, starts 7pm.
