best sausage butties

are ones where the sausages were put in the sandwich hot and had slices of tomato put on top, which the heat of the sausages has cooked the tomatoes slightly. Then the whole sandwich has been left to cool down so the sausage has gone nice and compactish. with lots of ketchup, of course.
