Reminds me of BT at times
They sent out something to plug in, you unscrewed the telephone line in cable quad on the well, and attached this gadget to it, and then screwed it back together
That made it go from 12kbps to 50, which I can deal with us being on half a mb connection
Best I've seen out of it was 200kbps. Recently it moved up to 400, but a lot of the time it's at the 50
I don't know if you're staying regardless, but it might be worth looking into the accelator thing I've badly described above. It might make you tolerate it and then grab the times when it's 200-400
