Another boring computer question for you nerds

If you reinstall completely an operating system for XP, do you also need to put the drivers back on (god knows what that means)?

You see, my computer now no longer has sound and i got some message telling me about no sound driver (or something, can't remember now)

I looked for a disc with drivers on it but it seemed to suggest it was just the monitor disk.....
