Well, yes. If the board were happy to sit on their hands until 5pm tomorrow
and then say quietly "Good game today, but we've decided enough's enough" regarldess of the result, then a leak like that would sort of force the issue. They could hardly issue a denial, given that it was actually true, and they couldn't let him carry on regardless knowing that he was off.
Hadn't considered that, but the more I think about it, the more likely it seems.
