just stumbled upon this bizarre recipe introduction on Delia's website

Preserved Ginger and Oat Biscuits

All is not quiet on the Eastern Front. The football is floundering and as one rather witty football hack points out the Canaries are suffering from a touch of bird flu. The worst case was in evidence after a journey from the Far East (Norfolk) to the furthest possible place in our league, namely Plymouth. The journey for 750 of our stoic supporters began at 4.30 am. Plymouth who, in their Chairman?s words, are ?unable to win at home?, did and after a 3-1 slaughtering, can you imagine how very painful that long journey back home was? The aftermath has not been pretty, as the club has received an avalanche of e-mails, phone calls and letters of protest. You will understand that we who have the massive responsibility of putting things right will have our work cut out over the next while, and kitchen matters have rather been (I have to say it) on the back burner. However there are others things in life besides the dreaded F-word, and as the English response to stress has always been to put the kettle on and make a fresh pot, we did just that. And what?s more, we made a little something rather special and comforting to go with it.
