I truly believe

that this "competition for places" thing where you buy a load of sub-standard players rather than a few good ones means that he felt there was no-one on the bench that would make a blind bit of difference. And on changing tactics, well if you can't play football it doesn't matter what the formation is.

I got ripped into on here for worrying that we were spreading what money we had too thinly, I feared the results would be bad days, but not on Saturday's scale.
