Way I look at it is:

Flintoff plays here, we lose but he injures himself and misses the final test;

Flintoff sits out this one and concentrates on getting fit for the final test which could be the decider;

Flintoff sits out here and we win to clinch the series, allowing him to get good rest and rehab, allowing some experimenting to be done in the final test with new blood
