The pop-up ones are very good - I got my son one last week and he used it in Brittany (where it rained, as it often does there). He stayed completely dry. He's 9 years old and with a little help he can put it up and get it down easily. Only downside is it's a little small for an adult, so a two-person would do you better. My brother's got one as well; he worked at Glastonbury this year and it got thoroughly rain tested. He said it let none in.

I think they're excellent, and the number of them you see in campsites around Europe would seem to indicate that a lot of others do too.
