Astana are in the position of having joint leaders

it's not unknown for teams to do that, or for the leader to change during a tour should it be that one of their riders find themselves in better shape and position than the other leader

Armstrong did nothing wrong by going with the break and not going back to help, or by even keeping a couple of his teammates with him just in case he got into trouble himself.

However, he didn't just go along for the ride, he worked on the front himself and got his teammates to work too - that's quite a different thing
