Hamilton is young, and has the potential to be one of the greats

Whereas Button is 29, and is winning in a car that is, up to now, waaaay faster than anyone else's. (Hamilton didn#t have that advantage - check out where his team-mate, in the same car, came in the world champs in the last two years, when Hamilton was 1st and 2nd.)

also Hamilton was trying to be the first British world champ for a while (and had come within a point of doing so the year before).

I think it's a combination of those things.
