Bit of nothing article really...global crisis affecting people.
I suppose where the big problem has arisen is that there's a lot of retirees out here. When I came it was 1.50? = 1?. Therefore a monthly pension of a grand was 1500 euros. Today it's about 1.12?, so around 75% of the value 2 1/2 years ago.
People simply have less money to spend over here. Add to that, the French got greedy when the Brits started coming over, and there's a noticeable huge increase in prices in the supermarkets over the last 4-5 years, and markets are astronomical a soon as they catch whiff of an English accent. The cost of living is just far too expensive here.
It's now cheaper to do an online shop at Tescos and get it shipped over here than it is to go to the local supermarket.
We're coming back for more personal than economic reasons, if I'm honest.
