I guess he borrowed it against some other asset...
and possibly in order to diversify risk will then move the debt to Man Utd.
Furthermore, if he was then to sell Man Utd the debt would stay with them. So he's not really going to be paying much for the club. He's using Man Utd to pay for it. Bloody clever really.
