if we get a new owner and things are taking a while to turned around (which they almost certainly will) plenty of fans will take the easy option on continuing to blame the Stowmarket 2, even if they don't have any real say in what goes on anymore - an easy win for the new owner would be to then get rid of the figureheads, appeasing the fans, buying himself added time to implement his plans

is that a bit cynical though?
