That going up to the Premier League is initially expensive but becomes more and more affordable the longer you stay there. Some people seem to think you can even make money.
When you consider that Charlton and Southampton have both spent 10+ years in the Premier League soaking up huge amounts of TV money while we haven't had a pot to piss in since the early nineties, I'd say they've been a damn sight worse run than we have.
