Me first Norwich game was there, I was sat in the home end
With the 16,000 kop there to the left of me. Hirst and Sheridan scored and it was 2-0 at half time to them
Being 13, I wanted to be with the right fans, we went to the stewards, and they let us in the away end
That was a mistake in hindsight, and since going there to see us 3 times since, I've never enjoyed going in that end. Probably my own thinking. But I do remember being in the home end and being impressed by the roar and the ground etc, and within minutes, regretting being sat in that end
I don't rush to sheff weds as an away fixture in planning. I even went there last season with a weds fan, and didn't even enjoy being in the home end. I just don't like that ground really
On the subject of Hillsborough, the city went into extreme modes after the disaster. I was swimming in Sheffield not long after. This is the old sheffield pool, not Ponds Forge the major one there now.
These swimming meets involved you being on the pool side all day waiting for your races. When I, or anyone tried to go and sit with my mum in the balcony, I got refused, and everyone was basically told "we don't want another Hillsborough"
That went on 2-3 times before people in the city relaxed and got over what had happened, meaning there's not going to be a crush just because a few people want to sit with their families at an amatuer swimming event
I suppose you could understand it even though it was a little odd
They're one of my few memories of Hillsborough. On the day, I was in at a swimming gala, and whilst I was trying to listen to radio 5, which was usually a nightmare indoors on analogue radio, I remember around 5 o'clock the numbers were about 50 dead
I remember putting match of the day on that night, and they covered it like it was any other game. I watched it thinking it wasn't going to happen, then I remember the cameras went to Grobbelar (sp) who was signalling to the referee or the police that people were in trouble, then the scenes were shown
I knew nothing about media reaction, I missed all the conjecture after, just the official numbers days later rising and how sad it was
