it's the bookies own fault
someone came on the betfair forum on FRIDAY afternoon saying he believed the first team would be on strike and that the youth team would play. plenty got involved following the info and plenty were willing to lay the bets. but the bookies are under no obligation to lay huge bets and should have realised when they started seeing trying to have chunks on a non league game. usually they limit you to small bets anyway. so ?1m liability is there own fault cos of their own stupidity. the news had been public domain for ages and it's hardly just the weymouth fans who got involved as plenty knew on friday. but the teams were only announced shortly before kick off and people still thought the normal squad would play.
here's the thread anyway from friday to the game. quite amusing.
