That's why we were so surprised to read how they had treated Roman Pavlyuchenko's cheeky and frankly scandalous admission that he might prefer the food and women from his homeland, where he had spent the previous 26 years of his life.
'Whinger Pav Has Brit Pop' barks the headline.
'Roman Pavlyuchenko last night had a go at life in Briatin - insisting he does not like the food OR women!'
Imagine! And this is the land that brought the world spotted dick and Janet Street Porter. The cheek of the man.
