Doesn't it have a little relevance?
Is there no remaining concept at all of respect for the elderly? I know it's a weakened idea but I do think that there is some residual force in that.
More pragmatically, age is relevant when consdering the degree of offence being given. A 75 year old may well find offensive things which a 25 year will not.
