Colchester Pub Guide
Some local knowledge for anyone going to Colchester on Saturday.
My top recommendations for good beer are Dragoon/Fatcat/Hospital Arms or The Bricklayers near the station.
Near the Station:
The Bricklayers - Adnams + guest beers. CAMRA favourite.
The Norfolk - Ok local with Sky.
Town Centre:
Wig & Pen - Busy footy pub on High St, multiple Sky screens.
Yates - Chain pub. Local ASBO kids and squaddie hang out. Good for a fight on Sat nights.
Edwards - Chain pub. More up market than Yates. Can get a bit ugly at night.
O'Neills - Chain pub. Standard Irish stuff.
Fox & Fiddler - CAMRA pub. Friendly but mostly over 50's.
The Bull - Squaddie favourite. Not for the faint hearted!
The Hogshead (Crouch St) - Good range of beers & food. Big courtyard at back.
The Hospital Arms (Crouch St) - Adnams pub. Home cooked food. Friendly CAMRA pub. Curry house next door!
Near to Layer Rd:
The Dragoon - Adnams pub. Friendly and welcoming to all fans. Not known for trouble.
The Fatcat - Sister pub to the one in Norwich. CAMRA heaven. Also v. friendly.
Drury Arms - Closest to the ground. Away fans allowed in but segregated in own bar. Heavy Police presence. Not a great pub, but convenient for ground.
